H. Miller Bros. conceived of this kitchen as a mix of stand-alone pieces of furniture and cabinetry fitted into niches which was a design decision made in the spirit of authenticity with the time period of the building. All the cabinetry has a common design language and proportions, and the colour ties the separate pieces together to a cohesive whole.

The forest green colour was chosen by Kate, and looks particularly gorgeous in contrast to the arabescato marble worktops. H. Miller Bros. suggested using glass in the pantry doors to help bounce light coming from the north window into the room. It also created the opportunity to use a beautiful figured timber for the internal lining of the glass fronted cabinets to add richness and intrigue. They explored a variety of timbers with Kate and Andrew before settling on bird’s eye maple with specially mixed stain that had the tiniest touch of pink in it. Within the pantry cabinet is a plate rack and two custom treat boxes for the children.
