Hey design-lovers,
At H. Miller Bros, my brother and I have been working with clients who want to realise their dream homes and spaces for more than 15 years. We both trained as architects, so we understand the power that good quality design has to transform a scheme from 'merely functional' to 'entirely delightful'.
If you’re embarking on a project like this, the choice of who to work with can be overwhelming, and so many of the options seem kind of boring, and not a good fit. With this in mind, I thought it might be interesting to tell you a bit more about us, and the team behind H. Miller Bros. We’re not a website, we’re a group of passionate designer and craftspeople and our mission is to make things for design-loving clients in wood.
So, come and meet the team…
Howard (beow, left) is an award-winning architect and garden designer, who loves to create tactile, beautiful, elegant spaces that are a delight to live in. Our clients are constantly astonished by the original, unusual, fun, yet functional solutions he finds to the challenges they face. Howard has also designed gardens, and you might have seen his Gold Medal winning Dark Matter garden at Chelsea Flower Show in 2015!
Next up, it’s me (above, right). I’m Hugh, and I write these articles. I’ve been making furniture since I was 15, and I understand wood! It’s my material, and I know how it can be used to create warmth, articulation, structure, and longevity in your home. My speciality is Japanese design, and I’ve travelled widely there as a Winston Churchill Memorial Fellow for my research study on Japanese wood craftsmanship. You can see this influence on the H. Miller Bros house-style, where shoji paper and thin lathes of timber are used within our contemporary kitchen designs.
The workshop team at H. Miller Bros, led by David Williams (above, polishing), bring a combined experience of over 60 years of high-end woodworking and complex furniture making into each project, so you can feel confident that your cabinetry is being made to the most exacting of standards. David is an alumnus of the renowned Edward Barnsley Workshop, having been selected for their prestigious traditional furniture making apprenticeship. David has crafted pieces for super-yachts, private residences, and Oxbridge colleges, so you can rest assured that your project is being overseen by a bona-fide master craftsman.
We know how crucial it is that the installation of your project is a smooth, organised, and tidy experience. That's why we draw on the experience of the entire H. Miller Bros. team and fit our own projects, wherever you are in the UK. With the disruption and mess caused by tradespeople a top issue for our clients, we can guarantee the best quality service when it's our own staff doing the installation. With everything assembled and mocked-up in the worktop prior to delivery, and thoroughly planned and coordinated ahead of time, we can ensure a speedy process with a minimum of upheaval.
Though we install projects all over the UK, our workshop is a Victorian warehouse in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle. It’s a traditional furniture making workshop, with some added tech, and we love to welcome clients to the workshop, whether it’s to talk about their projects, review designs or samples, or see their woodwork being made! If you’re keen, you can book a visit here…
